Vixens: Kristel the St. Lucian Queen

"Dance like no one is watching."

What’s your name and where are you from?
Kristel St Omer. I was born on the island of St Lucia, however I've lived in Brooklyn New York for about 20 years.

How has being natural affected your life? How do you feel about this natural hair “movement”?
Being natural has changed my life in a major way. Since being natural I've become a hair model, working with brands such as Carol's Daughter and Dark and Lovely
I love the fact that so many women are embracing who they are. I wish I could fast forward five years from now. It will be interesting to see how things change.

How long did you transition for? Any tips you want to give to readers, tips you wish you would have known when you were transitioning?
I transitioned for about 13 months. If I can give any tips it would be to keep both textures moisturized. Style your hair like it is fully natural. A lot of women
are trying really hard to make their natural hair blend
with the relaxed ends and that isn't the best thing. Heat
styling will alter your hair texture.

 -  Do you have staple hair products? If so what are they?
My staple hair product is Shea Butter. It's affordable, lasts long and helps keep my hair soft and moisturized.

Hard as it may seem how would you describe your hair and the regime you use to maintain it?
I wash my hair at least twice a week. One full wash and one cowash. (A full wash on Sunday and a cowash on Thursday) I usually twist my hair while it's wet and wear my hair in a twist out afro majority of the time. I retwist my hair at night to keep my hair from tangling. I wear a satin scarf or bonnet to bed.

 -  What IS fashion to you or FOR you?
To me fashion is what's trending. I wouldn't call myself a fashionista. I'm more into style.

Where do you draw inspiration from? Not only for fashion, but your art, music, poetry, ….life?
I draw inspiration from life, and my mood. Being from a different country I had to learn how to adapt and somewhat fit in, there-fore I'm able to pull from different forms.

Sexuality is celebrated here on The Vixen Box through “The Clitoris Taboo” series on the blog, meaning women’s sexuality is a “taboo” subject . What IS sexuality?
Sexuality is Freedom. The ability to embrace who you are naturally.

Music is such a great medium? What and who are you listening to now?
No matter how my day goes, at some point I will have a soca song playing. It lifts my spirits instantly. Machel Montano, Busy signal and Konshen are some of my top Caribbean artist.  Iyanya  (an african artist)Stacy Barth and Miley Cyrus. (Lol) My music choice goes with my mood. For the most part I'm upbeat so theirs always a party in my earphones.

 -  Although I only have one tattoo (for now) I am a tattoo aficionado. Your tattoos are literally works of art. What is your favorite or more spiritual tattoo?
I have two tattoos. My most meaningful tattoo says Be Strong. My life is never easy and I always have to remind myself that I am strong.

Here at The Vixen Box, health and fitness is major. I know for me I am + working on getting myself right physically and emotionally by eating clean and incorporating exercise into my life. What do you do as far as health and fitness to stay or reach a level of good health?
Health and fitness starts with my diet. I try to eat when I am hungry. If I eat any fast food it's because my options are limited. I love fruit, and I keep active. I go to the gym  and walk often.

 -  Do you meditate? If so, do you mind sharing how often and what the benefits have been for you?
I do not meditate. However I make it a must to spend time alone and think everyday.

- How can readers get in contact with you via social network?
I am on Instagram, and Facebook.

 - You have travelled extensively. What was your favorite place? Where is somewhere that you would like to go?
My favorite place so far has been The Dominican Republic.
I plan on visiting Amsterdam Trinidad and back Home St Lucia very soon.

What makes you a Vixen:
(Here at The Vixen Box  a Vixen is someone who loves, accepts everything and everyone for who they are. They spread love, share love, and give love. Conquering the world one day at a time, while keeping it funky and edgy.)

I'm a vixen because I love life. My heart belongs to the world.

Favorite Quote:

We think individuality is celebrated here…. but sometimes in others reality it is not true. What words of encouragement would you give someone who is having a hard time not being part of the status quo and is unapologetically unique?
God made you for a purpose. Find that purpose and Live!

Thanks Kristel for sharing with The Vixen Box! Make sure to check Kristel out on her Instagram and Facebook!
