Vixens:International with Awanda of GoNatural Spain!

R. Tagore

*Disclaimer! My Spanish is horrid! I took three years in high school and I grew up in a predominately Hispanic neighborhood yet my Spanish is still basic. I did try my best to translate it with the help of three of my former high school girlfriends.

-What’s your name and where are you from?
Hello my name is Awanda S. Perez. I was born in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, but I have lived all my life in Madrid Spain.

- Being from Spain, your culture is a lot different from American Culture. How would you describe Spanish culture?

Spain is a country with great cultural richness. Each región of Spain  has its own unique characterisitics, for example something that perhaps many people do not know is that here we have four oficial languages; Castilian, Catalan, Galican and Basque.Linguistically Spain is very rich with a very long history that also reflects our culture and monarchy. But this does not prevent our country from being modern and open. We also enjoy our cuisine, so popular activities such as going for “Tapas” on the weekends or after work, to spend time with our family and Friends . We enjoy wine or beer combined with our small, but balanced healthy Meditteranean diet.

-How has being natural affected your life? How do you feel about this natural hair “movement”?

For me being natural has changed my life. It first started as a necessity for my capillary health that my husband and a friend motivated. He is a psychologist and he helped me with every step I had to take. So much that he gave me my big chop in our house. Later on as the project took its course and the movement in Spain we have gone on to meet and make many sisters. It's really fantastic.

-Do you have staple hair products? If so what are they?

The products that I use, I buy here in Spain. Previously,  I started buying them online from the UK. Now though I’m glad to say they can all be purchased right here in Spain. I mostly use the Dynasty Afro Brand that is selling well on my website. I use sulfate free shampoo, keratin styling cream and a moisturizing mask. To finish I use Olive Oil as a sealant. I make homemade masks using natural stuff, for example with avocado.

- Hard as it may seem how would you describe your hair and the regime you use to maintain it?
My haircare routine is simple, practical, and natural. I normally wash my hair with suflate free shampoo. I then apply a bit of styling cream and olive oil to seal it. On the weekends when I have more time, I use a natural based hydration treatment. But I do not do this very often because I’m usually very busy.

- Designers are already preparing for Fall, what are some trends you are looking forward to?
Although it may seem like a lie, I am really not a women of trends. If I like something I wont question if it is in style or if it is not. Of course doesn’t mean I don’t admire the art in fashion. I am a strong admirer of the textile industry.

I confess that in the city where I live most of the fashion is Avant Garde, in the regard as Inditex headquarters is here. Outside of Spain, Zara is the best known brand but luckily here we can enjoy other lines:Uterque, Ohioso, Pull& Bear, Trafa, Stradivarius etc.

- Sexuality is celebrated here on The Vixen Box through “The Clitoris Taboo” series on the blog. What is sexuality to you?
From my point of view, sexuality is one of the most important things in life, both from a physiological point of view, because they say it is hedonistic.
In my existence I strive to achieve personal happiness and try to radiate to others with my light so that I can never miss an important connection.

- Music is such a great medium? What and who are you listening to now?
I need music to breath. It is like a vital vibration that enriches my days. In fact, all of my memories, thoughts, or emotions in my life experiences each have a song.
I like almost all kinds of music, from singer-songwriters, to DJ’s my weakness is the legacy of Michael Jackson.

- Here at The Vixen Box, health and fitness is major. I know for me I am working on getting myself right physically and emotionally by eating clean and incorporating exercise into my life. What do you do as far as health and fitness to stay or reach a level of good health?
I like your question because I’ve always believed that emotional and physical health go hand in hand. As I wrote, my diest is mostly Mediterranean but seasoned with Carribean recipes and spices. I try to eat healthy, and for me eating enough plays a big part. I need my energy!
We usually do sports at home. We also do relaxation and meditation techniques as my husband is also dedicated to that. The truth is that I have been coaching myself to carry out my life more spiritually.

-What’s your name and where are you from?
Hola, me llamo Awanda Perez Suero.  Naci en Santo Domingo, RD. Pero he vivido toda mi vida en Madrid.

- Being from Spain, your culture is a lot different from American Culture. How would you describe Spanish culture?

-How has being natural affected your life? How do you feel about this natural hair “movement”?

Do you have staple hair products? If so what are they?

- Hard as it may seem how would you describe your hair and the regime you use to maintain it?

- Designers are already preparing for Fall, what are some trends you are looking forward to?

- Sexuality is celebrated here on The Vixen Box through “The Clitoris Taboo” series on the blog. What is sexuality to you?

- Music is such a great medium? What and who are you listening to now?

- Here at The Vixen Box, health and fitness is major. I know for me I am working on getting myself right physically and emotionally by eating clean and incorporating exercise into my life. What do you do as far as health and fitness to stay or reach a level of good health?
